Traceability

We know where a product comes from and where it goes.

In organic product trade, traceability is not just record-keeping. Being able to follow the process a product goes through from its source until it reaches the customer requires protecting the product’s identity, its information and the related records.

At Biosmyrna, we treat traceability as an integral part of our sourcing, storage and shipment processes.

  1. Source

Recording the supplier and the product’s source

  2. Sourcing

Which supplier it came from, and under which product and batch

  3. Batch

    Linking product and batch information

  4. Storage

    Recording the product’s movements

  5. Shipment

Following the customer the batch was shipped to and the shipment details

  6. Customer

Knowing which customer the batch reached

A Trail That Starts at the Source

We record information on the source of the products we procure, and follow which supplier a product came from and under which product and batch.

  • Supplier

Which supplier the product came from

  • Product and Batch

Under which product and batch it was sourced

  • Organic Identity

Information on certification and product scope

For organic products, information on certification and product scope is also assessed together with the product’s identity.

This means the product can be traced back to its source when needed.

Tracing back

  1. From product
  2. to batch
  3. to supply source

Every Batch Has a Record

Products entering the facility or our warehouses are followed together with their records.

Product batch

  1. Product
  2. Quantity
  3. Supply source
  4. Analyses and quality checks
  5. Storage
  6. Shipment

We place importance on keeping the link between product information, quantity, supply source, analyses and quality checks, and storage and shipment information.

This structure makes it possible to work back from a single product or shipment to the related sourcing and product information.

From Storage to Shipment

Traceability does not end when the product enters the warehouse.

  1. Storage
  2. Product preparation
  3. Loading
  4. Shipment
  5. Customer

Throughout storage, product preparation, loading and shipment, we track which batch the product belongs to and which customer it is shipped to.

In this way, we create a traceable chain of records between the supply source and the shipment made to the customer.

Protecting the Identity of Organic Products

Biosmyrna’s commercial activities are limited to organic products only.

  1. Organic product
  2. Identity
  3. Record
  4. Traceability

The fact that no conventional products enter our facilities and warehouses gives an important structural advantage in protecting product identity when managing organic products.

We focus on protecting the product’s identity and related records throughout the process from sourcing organic products to storage and shipment.

Tracing Backwards and Forwards

Being able to go back from a batch to its supply source, and forward to the customer and the shipment.

The purpose of our traceability system is not only to find out where a product came from.

Backward

Forward

Product batch
  1. Sourcing
  2. Supplier / Source
  1. Shipment
  2. Customer

When needed, it is important to be able to work back from a batch to its supply source, and equally to follow a batch forward to see which customers and which shipments it reached.

This approach allows product movements to be managed in a more controlled way and the right information to be found quickly when needed.

From source to customer

For us, a product’s story does not end when it reaches the customer. Knowing where it came from, what processes it went through and where it went is part of our trade.
