The product must meet the quality characteristics requested by the customer, its related documents must be in place, and the characteristics stated during trading must match the product delivered.

That is why, at Biosmyrna, we do not base our quality assessment on a single document or a single analysis.

Assessment starts before the product enters the warehouse

Quality control is not something that starts when the product reaches our facility.

At the sourcing stage, the product’s source, organic status, available analysis results and the product characteristics requested by the customer are assessed together.

This builds as clear a picture of the product as possible before the purchasing decision is made.

This approach lets us focus on sourcing the right product from the right source, rather than trying to work out whether the product is suitable after it has arrived.

Samples and analysis results are an important source of information

Taking samples at product acceptance is an important step in assessing the product’s physical and quality characteristics.

In addition, the analysis results available during sourcing are also taken into account. Depending on the nature of the product and the customer’s expectations, additional analyses can be planned where considered necessary.

While some basic and routine checks can be carried out at our facility, technical laboratory analyses are carried out when needed using the services of accredited third-party laboratories.

Analyses such as pesticides and, where necessary, GMO in particular are assessed according to the product’s characteristics and commercial requirements.

The same control approach is not applied to every product

It is not correct to assess all organic products as if they were the same product.

The characteristics to be considered in assessing the quality of a pulse, a grain, an oilseed or a feed raw material may differ.

Likewise, the customer’s intended use and the specifications they request can affect the scope of the checks.

That is why, at Biosmyrna, we shape quality assessment according to the product, the supply source and the customer’s needs.

An analysis result alone does not make the decision

An analysis result gives important information about a specific characteristic of a product. But in organic product trade, a correct assessment is not made by looking at a single number.

The product’s source, organic certification, analysis results, physical characteristics, storage conditions and the customer’s request should be assessed together.

For example, a product that looks suitable from an analysis point of view may not meet the origin, certification or other product specifications the customer wants.

That is why we assess quality together with the product’s whole commercial identity.

The aim is not just to accept the product

The purpose of quality control is not just to decide which product will enter the warehouse.

The real aim is to keep the product offered to the customer and the product delivered consistent with each other.

It matters to us that the product characteristics our customer saw when making the purchasing decision are matched at the shipment stage too.

That is why we do not think of quality assessment as separate from the sourcing, storage and shipment processes.

Trust comes from verifiable information

In organic product trade, trust is not built simply by saying “our product is high quality”.

It is necessary to know where the product came from, verify its organic status, have the necessary quality information and keep the delivered product consistent with the characteristics the customer requested.

This understanding lies at the heart of our approach to quality at Biosmyrna.

For us, quality is not a result checked after the product has been received; it is a process that starts with choosing the right product from the right source and continues until delivery to the customer.
